Winter is coming and days are getting shorter. Båge & Söner would like to inspire you to take a pause, make yourself cozy with a cup of tea and light a fire. We had a privilege of meeting with Louise Varre, founder of  Eldvarm. Their story resonates deeply with ours, to disconnect to reconnect.

When Louise Varre founded Eldvarm, her vision extended beyond crafting beautiful fireplace accessories; she aspired to create spaces where people could gather, share stories, and reconnect by the warmth of a fire.

Louise, can you share a favorite memory from your childhood spent by the fire?

“It’s hard to choose,” she admits. “I grew up in Norway, surrounded by fireplaces. We were always outdoors, and on weekends, the fires were always lit—or so I like to remember! One of my fondest moments was watching my father start the fire. It felt like a ceremony—both challenging and a little dangerous.

How does Eldvarm help people reconnect in today’s fast-paced world?

“Humans have gathered around fires since the beginning of time,” Louise explains. “It kept us safe, warm, and gave us time to be together after dark. For hundreds of thousands of years, fire strengthened our tribes. It’s in our collective memory—symbolizing protection, warmth, and togetherness." Louise believes that maybe this is why sitting by a fire today makes us relax and breathe a little deeper.

What stories do you hope people share around a fireplace?

“It doesn’t matter what we share—only that we do,” Louise says. “Stories once passed vital knowledge across generations, deepening bonds. Today, they nourish our souls. I love honest conversations with friends or family. My wish for the next fireside moment? Someone telling me a fantastical story I’ve never heard before.”
